YES for development

A volunteer project in Lusaka, Zambia from September to December 2008

Thanks to Third World Group Malta, I will be spending three months in Lusaka, Zambia as a volunteer working on a development through sports project as participant in a Global Education Network (GLEN) activity.

From September to December volunteers will work together with the Breakthrough Sports Academy (BSA), a local non-governmental organization (NGO), as football and life-skills coaches.

We will be focusing on integrating a sporting philosophy to every-day life for the children attending the academy in order to help with their educational development.

Issues that will be addressed during our project period are: health, HIV / AIDS, sanitation, social inclusion, gender equality, respect for others, and FAIR PLAY, in a way that will enable them to contribute also to the development of the communities within which they live.

On this site you will find a blog of my time spent in Zambia, interesting documentation on sports as a development tool, as well as other “alternative development” techniques, as well as the team’s training programme and schedule.

Of course, whilst all efforts have been made to ensure credit goes to whom/where it is due, please contact me should you note any discrepancies or have any suggestions.

I thank you in advance for your collaboration, and hope you find this project of interest.

Enjoy,

Julian
